School council

Our school council are elected by the students and have weekly meetings to discuss how we can improve our school and ensure pupil voice is captured.

Here are some examples of the impact of the student council this year:

- Children asked for the bell to be changed to be more neurodiverse-friendly as it is very loud in certain parts of the school. We now do not use the school bell.

- Through a questionnaire in readiness for a sensory audit, many children asked for lower lighting. This has been actioned across the school through use of various alternative lighting, including times throughout the day when classes use low lighting such as LED candles, lamps and fairy lights.

- School council worked with eco-council to develop an area of the school field into a child-friendly area. The children filled in a questionnaire to vote for what they wanted. It was decided that it would be a calm, nature-friendly area. Children voted on the name "Zen Den" and are currently working to fundraise for this. The council shared information about this in assembly and have been working with our PTFA, who have agreed to contribute some money. The children have also contacted our trustees, who have agreed to match-fund the money.
