Harvest time was celebrated by the children at Landewednack School and the adjoining Little Lizards Nursery when their annual Harvest Festival recently took place in The Lizard Methodist Chapel.
The chosen charity this year was St Petroc’s Society for Single Homeless People and we were delighted to raise £170 and donate food tins and produce for this very worthwhile cause. The children learnt all about the work St Petroc’s does for homeless people in Cornwall during a special assembly with Steve and Lois from the organisation.
The children also wore odd socks on the the day of their festival to highlight the plight of people living less fortunate than them. Teacher Mrs Green invited them all to design their own sock with the winners each receiving a new pair of socks!
As with tradition the children each brought in to school a vegetable which was made in to delicious harvest soup with the help of teaching assistant Mrs Liz Hill. The soup was enjoyed by everyone after the service. Our thanks go to The Lizard Methodist Chapel, to everyone who donated to St Petroc's and to all who came to our Harvest Festival.
