Climbing to Mount Everest

4th October 2015

A group of our children took part in a sponsored climb to raise money for UK-registered charity Global Action Nepal (GAN) on Sunday 4th October 2015. GAN have been working in Nepal since 1996 on a wide range of education and social improvement projects. Since the earthquakes earlier this year, in addition to providing tents, blankets and mattresses, GAN have been building ‘Temporary Learning Centres’ to ensure that children can continue their education. It is estimated that more than 25,000 classrooms were destroyed by the earthquakes, affecting nearly a third of Nepal’s school age children.

The sponsored climb was held at Granite Planet Climbing Centre, Penryn. Other local primary schools also took part in the climb.

The Landewednack children climbed 1458m which is the equivalent of Ben Nevis - an amazing achievement for 16 children!

A total of 72 children climbed throughout the afternoon and the total height climbed on the day was 5724m which is just 171m short of Kilimanjaro, Africa's highest mountain.
